Want that come-in-from-the-cold rosy glow even when you’ve been holed up indoors? We show you how to rock the hottest blush beauty looks
Think you have to ditch contouring for blusher on a glam night out? Think again! You can combine the two. A smooth base is essential for this look, so mix two drops of Lancôme Custom Sculpting Drop in Bronze Glow*, £26/2,600 points (15ml), with foundation and smooth over your face for an even glow. Apply highlighter to the tops of cheekbones and work it around to brow bones. Our top pick? CYO Turn On The Light Illuminating Mixing Cream in Raise A Glass* Boots exclusive £6/600 points (20ml). Then suck in cheeks to reveal the hollows and apply bronzer, such as Bare Minerals Bare Pro Glow Highlighter in Fierce*, £23/2,300 points (15ml), and blend up to the brow bones with Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, £9.99/999 points. Finish with a sweep of powder blusher, such as NYX Professional Makeup High Definition Blush in Baby Doll*, £6/600 points, over cheeks.
‘For longevity, apply a powder highlighter on top of the cream highlighter and a sweep of bronzing powder over the cream bronzer to fix it in place,’ says Dani. ‘Then spritz with a facial setting spray.’
Lazy girls, rejoice! This is the blush look for you, as it’s easy to do and you only need one product. But switch pink for a grown-up purple to avoid it feeling too romantic. Sweep blusher – we like Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm in Plumped Up Peony*, £20/2,000 points – over cheeks and eyelids, and blend with your fingers for a relaxed-looking finish. Then use the stick on lips, too – it should look more like a stain, so dab in the middle of your pout, blend out and you’re done.
‘This co-ordinated look works best with glowing skin,’ says Dani. ‘Need a bit of a boost? Cheat radiance with a tinted moisturiser, and use concealer only where it’s needed.’
For standout cheeks, look no further than this bold blush look, which is perfect for an evening out. Create a flawless base with Bourjois Paris Healthy Mix Anti-Fatigue Blurring Primer, £9.99/999 points (20ml), then use a gel formula, such as Bourjois Healthy Mix Sorbet Blush in Apricot, £8.99/899 points, to build colour. This look is all about creating a triangle of colour on cheeks that mimics a natural flush. So to make sure you apply the blusher correctly, smile to find the apples of your cheeks, then start patting on the colour closer to your nose than usual, before blending down towards the mid-cheeks in a V-shape. For added radiance, highlight the tops of cheekbones and cheek apples. We like No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter Boots exclusive £10/1,000 points. Finish with a peachy nude lip gloss, such as NYX Professional Makeup Butter Gloss in Fortune Cookie*, £5.50/550 points.
‘Gel blush dries quickly, so speed is of the essence when it comes to application,’ advises make-up artist Dani Guinsberg, who created these looks. ‘Ditch the brush and instead use your fingers to work in the product, layering until you get the colour you want.’
