We reveal how to rock the season’s coolest catwalk hair

Whether you’re off to a gym class or a festival, or you just want to keep your hair off your face, you’ll be pleased to hear that braids are here to stay. This season, they’re tighter, more structured and closer to the nape of the neck. Haven’t had time to wash your hair? Even better – they look best on second-day locks.

AS SEEN AT: Cushnie, Max Mara, Erdem.

GET THE LOOK: ‘The perfect braid is all in the prep,’ says Aaron Carlo, Tresemmé ambassador. ‘Use a texturising product, such as dry shampoo. If you really need to wash hair, do it with a volumising shampoo, and apply dry shampoo, too. When plaiting, keep the braid tight, as it will loosen naturally through the day. Finish with hairspray to tame flyaways.’

THE KIT: Tresemmé Collagen+ Fullness Shampoo and Conditioner, £4.99/499 points (400ml) each; Boots Blossom Dry Shampoo, £1.50/150 points (200ml); Boots Polybands Ponybands*, £2.30/230 points (50-pack); John Frieda Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Hairspray, £3.99/399 points (250ml).

Sleek hair is back with a vengeance! The catwalks mixed things up with deep partings, no partings, top-knots, low ponies and half-up, half-down styles.

AS SEEN AT: Oscar de la Renta, Ulla Johnson, Missoni.

GET THE LOOK: The key to nailing this trend is to make sure your hair’s in tip-top condition. ‘Use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner with a UV filter,’ advises Ken O’Rourke, Charles Worthington ambassador. With a hairdryer, straighten locks in sections to iron out any kinks. ‘Straighten and brush at the same time, so it’s super sleek,’ adds Aaron. ‘And it’s important to finish with a hair oil for added gloss.’

THE KIT: Tresemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner, £4.99/499 points (400ml) each; Babyliss Diamond Radiance Salon Dryer, £54.99/5,499 points; Mark Hill Paddle Brush With Moroccan Argan Oil, £9.99/999 points; Tresemmé Keratin Smooth Shine Oil, £7.69/769 points (50ml).

This summer, it’s all about baby bangs (i.e. a short fringe). And the look is a lot more flattering than you might think. ‘It’s a wearable style for any age, and can work with all hair textures,’ says Ken. ‘If you have curly locks, it’ll just have more movement, but if they’re straight, it’ll sit more neatly. Plus, adding space between your eyebrows and fringe can help elongate the face, making this trend great if yours is round.’

AS SEEN AT: Prada, Miu Miu, Dries Van Noten.

GET THE LOOK: Want to get the chop? ‘Make sure you’re armed with photo examples, so your hairdresser knows exactly what you’re looking for,’ says Ken. ‘And to create texture with this look, sparingly apply a protein hair cream all over to add movement from root to tip.’

THE KIT: Charles Worthington Grow Strong Protein Treatment, £8.99/899 points (150ml).

Want max impact with minimum effort? Then this is for you. Cool and contemporary, the season’s wearable wet look is ideal for nights out when you want to embrace a rock-chick vibe. The best bit? It’s so quick to do!

AS SEEN AT: Altuzarra, Hellessy, Chloé.

GET THE LOOK: Frizzy locks will ruin this look, so make sure you start by prepping with an anti-frizz conditioner. ‘Then, leaving your hair damp, apply a gel to the roots and comb through,’ says Aaron. ‘Make sure you don’t overdo it, or it will look greasy. So start with a small amount, ensuring the ends are coated. Set with a strong-hold hairspray – you can add grips to keep it in place if you wish.’

THE KIT: John Frieda Frizz-Ease Daily Miracle Leave-In Conditioner, £5.99/599 points (200ml); Wella Shockwaves Ultra Strong Power Hold Gel Spray, £2.69/269 points (150ml); Tresemmé Freeze Hold Hairspray, £4.99/499 points (400ml); Boots Hair Grips in Brown*, £1.50/150 points (30-pack).

From unicorn tresses to cold-brewed, coffee-toned hair, we’ve seen it all. But the focus is on pretty pastels this season, and the catwalks were awash with different hues.

AS SEEN AT: Matty Bovan, Marc Jacobs, Ashley Williams.

GET THE LOOK: ‘When choosing a shade,’ says Ken,  ‘fair skin lends itself to warm undertones, while darker skin carries cool undertones more naturally.’ How do you prevent the colour fading? ‘Limit the number of weekly washes, use a colour-maintenance shampoo and conditioner, and rinse in cold water,’ he explains. ‘For a temporary look, easy – and fun – options include wash-in colours and hair paints.’

THE KIT: Charles Worthington Colourplex Toning Ultra Violet Shampoo, £7.99/799 points (250ml); L’Oréal Elvive Rapid Reviver Super Conditioner*, £5.50/550 points (180ml); Schwarzkopf Live Urban Metallics Permanent Intense Colour in Metallic Silver, £5.49/549 points; L’Oréal Paris Colorista Spray Pink Hair 1-Day Colour, £6.99/699 points (75ml), L’Oréal Paris Colorista Hair Makeup 1-Day Colour Highlights Metallic Blue Hair For Blondes, £6.99/699 points (30ml).
