Dashing from desk to do? Or from kiddy bedtimes to mums’ night out? We’ve got the secrets to nailing this season’s hottest party eyes in a matter of minutes
No time? No worries. This 70s-inspired purple eye creates maximum impact with minimum effort. ‘Refresh tired skin with a water spray before curling lashes and applying mascara to the top only,’ says award-winning make-up artist Lan Nguyen-Grealis†. ‘Then, using a large eyeshadow brush, apply a purple shadow across the entire lid, taking it up to the brow. Next, pat a lighter wash of purple eyeshadow onto the centre of the eyelid to soften.’ To complete the look, Lan adds: ‘Finish by using your ring finger to tap a lipstick of a similar shade from the centre of your lips out to the edges – being careful not to apply too much product.’

Crystals were the beauty trend of the summer – and they’re here to stay. At Kate Spade AW18, gems were just used on lids for a chic winter update. ‘Start by creating a smooth base with a mattifying primer to control shine and give your gems a base to stick to,’ explains Lan. ‘Fill in brows and fix in place with a brow gel, brushing hairs upwards. Then take a face jewel kit, cut out the gems from a strip and apply to lids. There’s no need to be precise, so stick as you please.’ To hold the focus on the eyes, keep lips nude – just add a slick of balm.
Want to go festive with your colour palette? This look, as seen at Emporio Armani, is the perfect way to add a Christmas feel to your make-up look while still keeping it sophisticated. ‘Start by adding a metallic, dark-grey base to the contours of the inner and outer eye sockets, before smudging a black kohl pencil on top and bottom waterlines. Then add plenty of mascara to both sets of lashes,’ says Lan. ‘Next, use a white shimmer to highlight the inner corners of the eyes. Finish with a green liner in the inner corners of the bottom lash lines and in the crease of the lids, taking care not to blend so the green stands out.’

We were smitten when we saw the models at the Akris AW18 show gliding down the catwalk with gold foil on their lids. The good news? You can cheat this look with glitter in less than five minutes. ‘First, line the eyes with a soft kohl pencil, ensuring you also include the top and bottom waterlines. Smudge using your ring finger to soften the look. Next, apply lashings of mascara to top and bottom lashes,’ says Lan. ‘Sweep a taupe shadow over the eyelids, to give a little contour, and blend, stopping at the socket lines. Then, with your ring finger, generously pat gold glitter over the lids, layering until you get the look of gold foil.’
