‘Confession: I used to hit the pillow in full make-up,’ says award-winning beauty journalist Vicci Bentley, 65. ‘But nowadays, I double-cleanse at night, to help my skincare products work more efficiently. I shift make-up with Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, £4.99/499 points (400ml), then massage in This Works Light Time Cleanse & Glow, £30/3,000 points (75ml), and remove it with a damp cloth. I also use the Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush (see in store or online for details) every day, to exfoliate and help keep my skin smooth and ready for moisturiser.’

LESS IS MORE

‘Beware heavy foundation – it can highlight creases,’ advises make-up artist Dani Guinsberg, 47. ‘I prefer lightweight CC creams, which are easy to blend and provide decent coverage without pooling in wrinkles.’

    TRY:
    YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer, £29.50/2,950 points (30ml);

LOVE YOUR SKIN

The Y-zone – your jawline and neck – can be an age giveaway. But with the New
No7 Restore & Renew Face & Neck Multi Action Serum Boots Exclusive
£28/2,800 points (30ml), you can look after your face and your Y-zone. We asked Dr Mike Bell, skincare scientific advisor for Boots, why this is a game-changer:

How is the skin on the neck different? ‘Over time, it loses moisture and is prone to chronic dryness, crêpiness and sagging – a subtle difference that can add years to your perceived age.’

Why do we need a new product? ‘Most anti-ageing creams focus on targeting deeper sun damage, whereas this improves texture on the surface, too. Combining the benefits in one product makes it easier to care for your neck – an area that’s often forgotten!’

How does it work? ‘It contains No7’s patent pending anti-ageing technology, with additional ingredients to combat dryness and lack of radiance. Ceramides help maintain a higher level of moisturisation, while new calcium amino-acid technology helps increase vitality and turnover of skin cells.’

What results can I expect? ‘This is the first serum to have multiple, clinically proven benefits for the face and neck: on the face, wrinkles are reduced in appearance, skin feels firmer and skin tone is more even. The neck will also feel firmer and crêpiness will be reduced in appearance.’

BE HAPPY

Model Gillean McLeod, 61, found Insta-fame last year as the face of an H&M swimwear campaign. So what’s her secret?

‘A healthy diet, a bit of exercise and keeping my brain busy help me stay feeling and looking young.’

‘Self-doubt is such a waste of time. I used to be very shy, but when I was asked to model in my 50s, I finally found body confidence. I don’t pretend to be 30, and it’s so freeing.’

‘The key to enjoying life is to do what makes you happy – then it shines from your whole being.’

‘Older women are finally coming out of the shadows – and not before time!’ says Health & Beauty Editor Helen Daly. ‘The sooner we can celebrate who we are and stop trying to be something we’re not, the sooner we can put paid to the idea that ageing is something to fear.’

‘Daily massage helps increase cell turnover, lift facial muscles and boost radiance,’ says Nichola Joss, celebrity facialist and Sanctuary Spa skincare expert. Want to try it? Here’s how:

    1. Pour a few drops of Sanctuary Spa Therapist’s Secret Facial Oil Boots Exclusive £17.50/1,750 points (30ml), into your palms, then rub hands together to warm the oil.

    2. Press onto your face and sweep outwards.

    3. Massage with fingertips, using small, circular motions, for one minute.

    4. Bend your index and middle fingers on each hand and sweep your knuckles along your jawline, from chin to ears.

    5. Place your thumbs under cheekbones and push up and under.

    6. Firmly sweep fingertips from your brows and upwards to the hairline.

    7. Repeat these last three moves six times.

‘Horse riding in the woods helps me relax and keeps me fit, which makes me feel young,’ says Shelly Vella, 50, stylist and founder of thestylishstuff.com. She’s on to something: ‘forest bathing’ (aka mindful time spent among trees) is a hot new wellness trend, and research shows it leads to lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol – result!

‘I tell my patients to exfoliate weekly to prevent skin looking dull,’ says dermatologist Dr Stefanie Williams. ‘Avoid grainy scrubs, which can damage the skin’s protective barrier and cause sensitivity. Try a chemical exfoliant that will gently dissolve dead skin cells and help plump up your skin.’

For sensitive skin: New Vichy Idéalia Peeling, £30/3,000 points (100ml).

For normal/dry skin: Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner, £26/2,600 points (125ml).

For oily/combination skin: Nip+Fab Exfoliate Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme, £14.95/1,495 points (60-pack).
